First off in regards to the server outage today I would like to extend my sincerest apologies for this occurrence, as well as the negative impact that it may have had on your business. Nothing is more important to us than your success in business.
Second, I'd like to assure you that your data is secure, safe and sound, but it was unfortunately offline today because of a major data center outage that affected over 10 million domains from what I can tell from my research today.
I know you have questions like what happened, why, when will it be fixed, and will it happen again. The datacenter refused to give us an ETA, meaningful updates, or explantations regarding the outage. They do assure us they are diligently working on it and will not stop until the issues are rectified.
I do not expect this to be an ongoing or recurring problem. Our servers are housed in data-centers and by far the majority of web servers are hosted in data-centers these days. There are several good reasons for this. The first reason is the data-centers provide maximum physical security for the servers where they are under 24-7 video monitoring, alarm systems, watch by security personnel, and have very strictly limited access. Another reason is data centers provide maximum uptime with redundant network routes, strict climate control systems, backup power systems, replacement computer parts on site for every server, as well as 24-7 technical staff responsible for keeping the network and servers online. In short they are the best way to host websites.
The data-center which houses 6 of our servers experienced a massive network issue with its connectivity to the backbone of the internet and was offline for the majority of the day today April 16th. This isn't small potatoes, for our datacenter we use a top-named subsidiary of a multi-billion dollar hosting company comprised of 68+ subsidiary hosting companies. I would expect if anybody can afford to have the best systems and people it is this company.
However, We are not willing to risk this happening again so we will meticulously weigh our options with other alternative data-centers to determine if we can be assured more reliable availability of our servers.
